Futo Yamane is a Cellist born in Japan.

He is known mainly for his achievements as a soloist, chamber musician and historical instrumental player. As a soloist he has performed with several orchestras both inside and outside of Japan such as Sofia philharmonic Orchestra-Bulgaria (F. J. Haydn and E. Elgar’s concertos), Geidai Philharmonia-Tokyo (J. Kokkonen’s Concerto). As a chamber musician, he has been a member of the award-winning Una Quartet. In Historically Informed Performance Practice (HIPP) concert scenes, he has been a member of leading historical ensembles such as the Orchestra Libera Classica (founded by Hidemi Suzuki) and La Musica Collana and appeared on their recordings as well.

Since 2019, he has been leading Lynx Consort as a musical director, principal cellist and conductor. The band is aims to perform repertoire mainly from the late 17th century to the early 20th century. Recently they have been holding a fascinating concert series with musicians who are active in the forefront of HIPP concert scenes.

He finished his Bachelor of Music at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2019. During his studies at the university, he was awarded the Ataka-prize and the Acanthus-prize which is given to the most successful students. At the same time, he was a conductor of Bach Cantata Club (founded by Michio Kobayashi and has produced world-leading HIPP musicians such as Masaaki Suzuki) and conducted many of the vocal and orchestral works by J. S. Bach.


During his studies in Tokyo, he was taught both modern and baroque cello performance by Fumiaki Kono and Hidemi Suzuki and trained by members of the Tokyo String Quartet as a chamber music player. Currently, he is doing Master of Arts in Historically Informed Performance Practice as a scholarship student at both the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the University of Glasgow under Professor David Watkin and Professor John Butt.

His recent recording of ‘R. Schumann Fantasiestücke Op. 73’ has been released by Warner Music Japan inc. and is available on some online streaming services.
